Creating a digital model for 3D printing yeilded the opportunity for technical exploration and concept design. The result was the development lore around the character, learning how to rig and animate, and exploring compositing 2D and 3D scenes.

An homage to the Mr.Rogers' Neighborhood, a program developed to discuss difficult topics with young people. The set was recreated in 3D and iconic shots from the show's opening sequence reanimated.

Visuals and direction references the art-styling of classic live-action/2D animation films Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Space Jam. In particular, the sepiatone of the former, and the dusty cell style shading.

Edits after the initial render output required adjusting, brightening materials, bringing up the scene lighting. A secondary lighting system was used to light the 2D character, leveraging Eevee's toon shading. The two passes are then composited in Blender.

Final edits are made in Photoshop, with subtitles added in Illustrator.

Lookdev evolved from exploring toon-shaders to achieve a cell shaded style, to more of a dusty/grainy look; future development may see the cell shading reintroduced as an overlay as the shadowed hard edges are reminiscent of 90's cartoon styling.
