Designed for the 2024 Olympics, this racing jacket blends national pride with the high-energy aesthetic of motorsports. The concept leverages the multi-sponsor styling of traditional racewear, incorporating endorsements from both large and small Jamaican businesses to celebrate the island’s racing culture and engage Jamaicans globally while promoting the sport.
Rather than adhering strictly to Jamaica’s traditional black, gold, and green, the design draws inspiration from the island’s landscapes. The body features a stylized homage to the Blue Mountains, framed by a yellow stripe representing the sun rising over the peaks. The upper section is colored to reflect the deep red mahoganies used in local woodworking, while sand and sky blue elements reference the meeting of the ocean and beach.
Additional detailing reinforces the motorsport influence: elbow patches inspired by rally headlights and a banana leaf patch running down the spine. The Olympic logo patch was generated directly from a 3D model, with shadow-based color variation enhancing the embroidery’s depth.
The jacket was modeled in Clo3D, then composed and rendered in 3ds Max with F-Storm. The embroidery was built in Houdini using a custom HDA that converts vector artwork from Illustrator into real geometry—an opportunity to explore new technical workflows while refining material realism. This project brought together multiple challenges, merging branding, storytelling, and textile simulation into one cohesive garment.
